NFL Preseason, Football at Last!

Written by MK

After so much time of discussions and deal approaches; the Owners and the Players have reached an agreement and at last the Lockout has been lifted, Thanks God we will have NFL again.

What can we expect of this new contract, will improve the games? Will make them worst? Are the players ready to take again on the field once more? We are now subject to wait until August 11 2011 to find out. The first game in schedule to start this new preseason will be brought by Seattle Seahawks and San Diego Chargers

Originally, the preseason was planned to start with the Hall of Fame game on August 7, but due to a series of issues, the game featuring the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams was cancelled; mostly due to a lack of time. Commissioner Roger Goodell quoted that he felt that it’s too important for the 32 teams to start operating with the same quantity of preseason games and start camping on the same dates or close. Any ways, the other Preseason and season games at the schedule will be played and that’s all we want for now.

This new CBA agreement will last for 10 years more; and apparently they have increased the regular season from 16 to 18 games, in some way favoring the owners. The case can be revisited on 2013, and the players must approve any possible change that could rise. This new deal doesn’t fix what both factions wanted, but is balanced and convenient for both parties.

The operations to revive the NFL started to move since Monday, the expected list of free agents got released, on Tuesday; undrafted free agents could be contacted by the teams; together with their own drafts. The facilities and the camps will be opening their doors on Wednesday, so the players can start right away with their trainings to get ready for the preseason. On Thursday the teams can finish all contracts at 4:01 p.m. ET. All drafts can be signing on Friday, free agency begins. The teams can sign ion their own drafts first and others who have played for other teams at 6:00 p.m. ET.

All stuff related with money has been solved; the framework for this deal to work was decided two week ago approximately. The revenue per club cap is near $120 millions for salaries including bonuses in 2011, 2012-2013; also 22 millions for benefit as salary system to spend on the draft-picks for the first-round and unrestricted free agency for players after four seasons.

So I guess all is cool for now, the deal has been made; the factions have agreed, the players and owners will get what they want and at last, the fans will get football on Sundays afternoons once more. So get the beer and the trash food and prepare to enjoy NFL once more because Football is Back Baby!
